Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer Review

Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli SlicerDon’t you just love those pork chops freshly made at your local deli? Or the steaks or strips of fresh meats. If you’re like me, then, you love going to the deli for these meaty delights. But what I love about them is the intricate way in which they slice the meat. How every slice looks indistinguishably like the next. Meat that was once a massive chunk, now in appetizing paper thin slices.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could perform such magic right in your kitchen. The sense of control you would feel to be able to create your own pork chops. That feeling of power when you cut perfect strips of fresh meat. So imagine my fascination when I was introduced to the continental professional series deli slicer, a budget priced meat slicer for the home. This baby can do what is done at the deli and at a very affordable price. Seriously, the glorious cuts of meat and cheese done right in your kitchen.

Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer Overview

The Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer has a price of <$80 on Amazon. Don’t let the price fool you, this machine stands confident in your kitchen. With dimensions of 16.8 X 12 X 10.8 inches, it doesn’t take up too much space but also doesn’t get lost among the other appliances.

Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer Style and Design

The moment you bring it home, it takes its place in the kitchen and is noticeable. It’s body is made of die-cast aluminum which isn’t anything much in terms of aesthetics but you didn’t buy it for it’s beauty, did you? If you need to move it, it obliges. That’s because it’s very light, for a professional slicer. It weighs in at only 10.5 pounds. To keep it from sliding off the kitchen counter, there are non slip feet slapped on underneath it.

This machine packs a mean punch. Powering the blade is a 150 watt motor that will see to it that you get those deli quality slices without much resistance. The blade itself is 7.5 inches in diameter and is made of heavy cast iron. But does it really do what needs to be done?

This slicer neatly sliced through baked, of-the-bone smoked ham, baked turkey ham, pepperoni and Swiss cheese. However, when it got to the NY state cheddar cheese, it began to drag. Not many home slicers, anyway, can handle the sticky cheese. I’d say, this machine is totally at it’s natural elements when handed meats. You can see it working through each slice effortlessly and every slice comes out even. For those who want their slices more on the thin side, well, this one won’t do it. The thinnest setting, which is about three quarter inch thick, doesn’t slice as thin as you would get at the deli. Also, your cuts won’t be 100% consistent 100% of the time. But if you’re not a very nit picky person then this won’t bother you. Speaking of being nit picky, the blade doesn’t really revolve as fast as you’d want it to. Again, this shouldn’t be a problem as you have to keep reminding yourself that it’s a budget device.

Cleaning the machine can be a bit of a pain. It does come apart quite easily by rotating the circle screws clockwise and presto, everything comes apart beautifully. But that’s as far as the simplicity goes. From there, cleaning the hard to reach corners will take you more time than you would want to take cleaning a kitchen appliance. For this, you’ll need patience. And a hand tool and cleaning fluid.

So, let me break down the pros and cons before we put a lid on this product review of the Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer

Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer Pros and Cons

  • It’s super affordable. You don’t need to give out your arm and leg for a meat slicer.
  • This machine will do most, if not all, of what the more pricey ones will do.
  • It is light weight. No one needs a kitchen appliance that stays put when needed to move.
  • This slicer will move to where you want, when you want.
  • It comes with a blade guard to prevent injuries. For you who are a bit clumsy, worry not, your fingers will remain intact thanks to this handy feature.

  • First, it concerns me that they chose to go with plastic for the food press, carriage and the internal gears. After prolonged use, the gears will start to wear off and break. Plastic isn’t a very durable choice of material. Also, the cleaning isn’t an enjoyable process.
  • To get to the hard to reach places, you’ll definitely need hand tools and, again, patience. Finally, the slices don’t come out very thin. Unless you like them thick, this will bug you a bit.

Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer Ratings

Does the Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer cut it? It does what you need it to do as well as the more expensive ones. I really don’t think it’s worth spending more money for a device that won’t add much more value. Sure, the cleaning is a bit of a hassle and yes, the plastic build reveals it’s budget pedigree but this machine still does its job and does it well. It earns a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
